WAPCOS Union seeks action against Director HR responsible for death of engineer
The Employees’ Union of WAPCOS has demanded action against the Director (Commercial & HRD) holding responsible for meting out mental torture to Executive Engineer, Mukesh Kumar died by heart attack after he failed to bear the extent of mental distress one after another transferring him to far-flung location soon after the death of his son.

In a letter to CMD, the Union alleged that after the death of his son, Mukesh Kumar was under severe mental distress but was not granted relief on humanitarian grounds for halt of his transfer from Gurugram to Chennai. It further claimed that stoppage of salary during this period worsened his condition, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest and his demise.

However, a senior official aware of the matter stated that under the present regime, even transfer of Group D staff does not take place without the CMD’s desire and knowledge. The official indicated that the representation may carry implications beyond seeking justice for the deceased employee and could also serve to shield CMD from scrutiny.

Some sections within the organization further state that the move might pave the way for the exit of the present Director (Commercial & HRD), potentially enabling the appointment of a CMD-favoured official against whom vigilance has reportedly raised concerns and action is awaited.

The episode raises a larger question: has human tragedy become a ground for internal positioning, rather than collective introspection and accountability?
