Shankar Narayan joins as CMD, CEL
A distinguished Mechanical Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Shankar Narayan brings with him over 33 years of rich and diverse professional experience spanning project execution, manufacturing, commercial operations, procurement, corporate strategy, business development, international operations, policy advocacy, and corporate learning.
He commenced his professional career with Eicher Good earth in 1991. After a brief tenure there, he joined Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited in 1992, where he served in various leadership positions, most recently as General Manager. During his distinguished career at BHEL, Narayan gained extensive experience across multiple business functions. He spent nearly 15 years in Project Execution, leading the erection and commissioning of gas-based power plants, including open cycle, co-generation, and combined cycle plants, across India, Bangladesh, and Oman. He subsequently served for six years in the Commercial Operations of steam turbines, nuclear turbines, and industrial motors, followed by three years in the Manufacturing of steam and nuclear turbines.
His professional journey also includes three years as Head of Procurement, managing project-based procurement of materials and services. In addition, he spent around six years in key Corporate Functions, contributing to International Operations, Corporate Strategy, Business Development, Policy Advocacy, and Corporate Learning. This multidisciplinary exposure has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of engineering, operations, business strategy, and organizational leadership, enabling him to identify emerging opportunities, formulate growth strategies, and strengthen commercial capabilities in an evolving business environment.
Known for his 360-degree leadership approach, he firmly believes in building strong relationships, fostering teamwork, empowering through delegation, and nurturing a culture of continuous learning.
