Kochi Water Metro: New milestone in eco-friendly travel
Kochi Water Metro has taken another historic step in the country's eco-friendly public transport sector. Kochi Water Metro has initiated the 'Carbon Credit Validation' process, which scientifically evaluates the reduction in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions caused by services and converts them into financial benefits. For this, an internationally renowned agency based in Bangalore, Kosher Climate, was selected through tender procedures. The project will be implemented on a revenue sharing model. Kochi Water Metro does not bear any financial burden for the project. Instead, the agreement is based on a revenue sharing model in which Kochi Water Metro will receive 71 percent of the amount received when the carbon credits are traded in the market. The entire cost of carbon credit certification, permits and technical studies will be borne by the agency itself. Water Metro will use eco-friendly boats that run entirely on electricity instead of traditional boats and personal vehicles that use fossil fuels (diesel/petrol).

As part of the project: The carbon emission reduction that passengers will experience when they choose Water Metro will be scientifically calculated. All aspects of Water Metro construction to service will be studied and appropriate permits will be obtained for international schemes. The carbon credits obtained in this way will be traded in the international market and generate financial gains.

The aim of Kochi Water Metro is to strengthen sustainable urban transport systems that operate on the principle of green. Kochi Water Metro Limited stated that this is one of the first initiatives in India and Kerala to utilize carbon credits in the field of electric water transport. As environmental laws and regulations become stricter in the future, the value of these carbon credits will increase and this will turn into a huge financial income.
