Railway Board’s ambiguity on merger of IRCON with RVNL?

Railway Board’s ambiguity on merger of IRCON with RVNL?
On the one hand, the Railway Ministry, in its letter dated March 3, 2026, had requested the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) to defer the selection of CMD, IRCON, citing the reason of a proposal being in the pipeline for the merger of IRCON International Limited with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), but on the other hand, Vivek Kumar Gupta, Member (Infrastructure), Railway Board has said that the IRCON will go long way.

Speaking at the IRCON Golden Jubilee Celebration event held in New Delhi, Gupta said that an amount of Rs 50 lakh crores has been earmarked and IRCON will do a lot of work in the infrastructure sector.

Lakhs crores will be spent by 2047 for Railway Infrastructure in the country, he added.

The statement of Gupta raised doubts whether or not the merger of IRCON with RVNL would take place.
